| For more than 40 years, Elaine Serling has been performing concerts in Canada, Israel, England, Australia and the United States, including her hometown, Detroit. An ASCAP award-winning singer and songwriter, Serling is passionate about music and Jewish tradition. Plus...
Elaine lived for a time in Jerusalem with her husband, Michael, where she loved walking through the Judean Hills. "The colors during dusk were exquisite and the quiet was beautiful. It will always remain that way in my memory."
When Elaine was 10, she began voice lessons with Detroit radio personality Harold Keen. "The unusual part of this equation," she says, "is that he couldn't see. Somehow, he always knew when I was slouching during the voice lesson, not opening my mouth wide enough while practicing, or making faces when I didn't like the lesson or how I was singing. It was a great beginning experience for me."
Elaine writes her own material...words and music. "It's a 24-hour process for me. During the writing of a new piece, all my energy goes toward the song, or trying not to think about writing the song. Sometimes it wakes me up or doesn't let me go to sleep until it sings perfect. Finishing the song in its entirety, is a sheer delight."
